The concept 'cultural industries' refers to a wide variety of cultural activities that have been commercialised. One of the key beneficial linkages is that which has developed between the cultural and tourism industries, with film tourism as one of the most successful examples. This study looks at the current situation of the film industry in South Africa and explores the potential and feasibility for utilising film tourism as a driving force of destination development. Based on international best practice, it also proposes a viable model as well as several suggestions to showcase South African films and films made in South Africa to boost local tourism and destination development.
