A research seminar, which was planned to be held on 20 March 2020 to disseminate research findings of studies conducted in collaboration with universities (University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg and University of Venda), was postponed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic declared on 15 March 2020. In keeping with the ‘new normal’ and ensure that the research findings are disseminated to wider tourism stakeholders, the Department is planning to host a research webinar under the theme: “Advancing Tourism Growth and Development through Research’’ where the universities will present findings of the studies completed in 2019/20.
The research webinar was held virtually on 30 October 2020
Key findings and recommendations of the following research studies was presented:
1. Assessment of mega trends on the tourism sector
2. Leveraging state-owned assets for SMME development
3. An analysis of the public sector expenditure in the tourism value chain: identifying socio-economic opportunities for black-owned enterprises in South Africa

A research poster exhibition was held at the Seminar for postgraduate students receiving financial support from the Department under the MoUs to showcase their research work.
