National Youth Chefs Training Programme (NYCTP) and Hospitality Youth Training Programme (HYTP)

MORE THAN 800 YOUTH WILL GRADUATE FROM TOURISM’S SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

The Department of Tourism will host graduation ceremonies across the country to honour learners who successfully completed the Chefs and Hospitality Training Programmes.

Launched in 2011, the National Youth Chefs Training Programme (NYCTP) and Hospitality Youth Training Programmes (HYTP) form part of the broader objectives of the National Tourism Sector Strategy to address skills shortages in the sector by capacitating unemployed youth and graduates.

Implemented by the SA Chefs Association, the NYCTP is a 10-month training course that comprises of 30% theory and 70% work integrated learning (industry placement). Five hundred and thirty four (534) learners will graduate as Chefs and receive certificates accredited by City & Guilds in the following:

- Certificate in Food Preparation and Cooking (8065-01)
- Diploma in Food Preparation and Cooking (8065-02)
- Patisserie (Pastry) in Food Preparation and Cooking (8065-03)

In the 2018/19 financial year, the Department also implemented the Hospitality Youth Training Programmes (HYTP) to equip learners with skills to work in the fast food industry. Three hundred (300) youth from Mpumalanga will graduate and receive a CATHSSETA accredited NQF level 3 qualification in Fast Food preparation.
