Skytrax World Airport Awards

“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Cape Town International Airport and the King Shaka Airport on their achievements in claiming awards at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023 held in Amsterdam yesterday, 15 March 2023,” Minister de Lille said.

Cape Town International Airport once again claimed the top prize winning Best Airport in Africa as well as Best Airport Staff in Africa and the Cleanest Airport in Africa.

King Shaka Airport in Durban won Best Regional Airport in Africa while the InterContinental OR Tambo won Best Airport Hotel in Africa.

“These are remarkable achievements for our airports and proof that we are upholding our status with world class standards in our airports.

I wish to congratulate the CEO of Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Mpumi Mpofu and her team and all the staff members at these airports for their hard work and commitment in maintaining award-winning standards.

South Africa remains one of the world’s top tourist destinations and the Department of Tourism stands ready to support and work with all stakeholders to accelerate all programmes that will see the tourism sector increase its contribution to our economy and create more jobs for our people,” Minister de Lille said.

The Tourism Sector Recovery Plan forms an integral part of South Africa’s Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan and we are committed to working harder to see the tourism sector thrive and reach its full potential.

Our airports are the first place visitors see when landing in our country and we must continue to uphold world class standards that will bring more tourists to South Africa.

“On behalf of the Department of Tourism, I once again extend congratulations to the teams at Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) at Cape Town International Airport and King Shaka Airport for this achievement,” Minister de Lille said.
