Green Tourism Incentive Programme (GTIP)

The Green Tourism Incentive (GTIP) is an energy efficiency incentive initiative of the Department of Tourism whose objective is to encourage private sector tourism enterprises to move towards cleaner and renewable energy sources. 

The focus of the GTIP is on the implementation of renewable energy generation and efficiency solutions that will assist private sector tourism enterprises in reducing input costs and facilitate increased competitiveness and operational sustainability. 

The GTIP broadly offers the following to qualifying tourism enterprises:
  • 90% of the cost for a new energy-efficiency audit or the full cost for reviewing an existing energy-efficiency audit; and
  • grant funding to qualifying small and micro enterprises on a sliding scale from 30% to 90% - capped at R 1 million
The GTIP is managed by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) on behalf of the Department of Tourism and the next window for applications period will be from 1 September to 30 November 2018.  

To apply for funding, applicants are required to follow the instructions below:
  • Download an application form from the IDC website, complete and submit the application form in soft copy (original excel format) to
  • The application form, including required annexures must be completed in full, accompanied by relevant supporting documents as provided for in the application form.
Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered for funding.

Tourism establishments and prospective applicants to the Green Tourism Incentive e (GTIP) are advised to be wary of people purporting to be representatives or agents of the Programme.

Please note that the IDC and NDT have not appointed agents or consultants to assist enterprises with the preparation of applications. The use of, and payment of any fees to consultants is at the discretion of the applicants.
