The Department of Tourism in collaboration with the City of Tshwane, will host the “Women in Tourism” conference event under the theme “Tourism Business trends and where the opportunities are for women.”
According the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) 2010 ‘Global report on Women in Tourism,’ women make up a large proportion of the formal tourism workforce, and are well represented in service and clerical level – but earn 10% to 15% less than their male counterparts.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms Tokozile Xasa, will be the keynote speaker at the conference set to assess the status of women in tourism, with a view of finding solutions to the economic challenges that hinder women entrepreneurs from thriving in the sector.
