African Interaction on Tourism

Members of the media are invited to a media briefing on the upcoming African Interaction on Tourism to be hosted by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Tokozile Xasa.

The Ambassadors of African countries represented in South Africa are to have a discussion on the current state of tourism on the African continent, and the review of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Tourism Action Plan. The discussion will be part of Meetings Africa Exhibition geared to increase the marketing opportunities within the region and to enhance tourism growth and development.

The discussion will look into Tourism as the key element in increasing growth, socio-economic development and unity of the continent. Development of skills, infrastructure and interconnectivity is essential as Africa is now directing more of its energies towards enhancing socio-economic development of its people and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals whose target date is in 2015.

The acceleration of Africa’s regional integration is one of the subjects expected to dominate the discussion.
