Tourism Highlights safety ahead of Tourism Month

#TourismSafety #WeDoTourism

Deputy Minister of Tourism Mr. Fish Mahlalela will host a stakeholder engagement on Tourism Safety at Numbi Hotel, Hazyview in Mpumalanga on 02 September 2022.

Tourism safety is identified across a number of studies, media and crime reports as a challenge that threatens sector growth, foreign direct investment, visitor spend and employment. It significantly influences the decisions made by tourists regarding their preferred holiday destination.

As the sector prepares to celebrate Tourism Month in September, the Department hosts the stakeholder engagement to rally industry players to enforce proactive and preventative practices to promote vigilance and awareness on safety among tourists and local communities to curb incidences of crime at tourist destinations.

The stakeholder session is supported by the executives of the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT), representatives of the Department of Police (SAPS), and trade represented by the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA).
