Mpumalanga youth get a skills boost through a tourism and SANParks empowerment initiative

The Department of Tourism in collaboration with the South African National Parks (SANParks) will host a graduation ceremony to honour youth from the Mpumalanga Province who successfully completed the Tourism Monitors Training Programme.

Deputy Minister, Fish Mahlalela, will officiate the ceremony wherein one hundred and six (106) youth will receive CATHSSETA accredited (NQF level 2-4) National Certificates in occupationally directed education training and development practices, tourist guiding, project management, nature conservation and new venture creation.

In 2019, the Department entered into a three-year agreement with SANParks to implement a Tourism Monitors Programme. The programme forms an integral part of the National Tourism Sector Strategy (NTSS) and the Tourism Sector Recovery Plan (TSRP) that seeks to empower the youth, and create employment opportunities in the sector. Graduates of this programme will be placed in all the 21 national parks in South Africa, including the Kruger National Park (KNP).
