Introduction
Tourism Month is an annual celebration held in September to focus on the importance of tourism to the economy of South Africa.
The Department of Tourism leads the celebrations with a number of events.
Background
Department
of Tourism will be celebrating the 2015 Tourism Month with the theme “A
million New Experiences are a Sho'tleft Away.” The UNWTO theme for this
year is “A Billion Tourists, A Billion Opportunities”. However, South
African Tourism has modified the global theme to make it more applicable
to the domestic campaign in South Africa and make it, “A million New
Experiences are a Sho'tleft Away”.
The theme for the 2015 Tourism
Month “A million New Experiences are a Sho'tleft Away" presents an
opportunity to highlight the economic impact of each tourist that
partakes in those million experiences. These include;
- Economic upliftment
- Job creation
- Investment in infrastructure and the implications of this on domestic tourism and ultimately the economy
