Tourism mourns the loss of City Lodge founder

Today the tourism industry bids farewell to one of own. It is with profound sadness that the Minister of Tourism, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, learned of the passing of one of the industry game changer, stalwart and beloved friend of tourism, Hans Rudolf Enderle founder of City Lodge Hotel Group.

Hans was a well-known, respected and active voice in the tourism industry who revolutionised the industry with his concept of select service hotels. He espoused a single-minded determination as he humbly mapped his career up the hospitality value chain until he founded the well-known City Lodge Group in 1985. His innovation birthed a whole new market segment, focussing on the business and no-frills family demographic. This proved immensely successful and saw the development of this group to include multi-star properties in its portfolio. While he retired in 2010, he remained a significant shareholder in the group.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of one of the sector’s giants. As a collective, the sector expresses its sincere condolences to his beloved wife, Barbara, his family, colleagues and all whose lives he touched. May you be consoled that his legacy will continue to inspire greatness and innovation,” said Minister Kubayi-Ngubane.

May his dear soul rest in eternal peace.
