​Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has noted reports suggesting that she deliberately missed the Portfolio Committee on Tourism meeting on Tuesday (7 February).

The Minister would like to clarify that she attended the Joint Meeting of all Cabinet Committees led by President Cyril Ramaphosa, which was a physical meeting which started at 09h00. The Portfolio committee meeting also started at 9am.

Minister Sisulu takes exception to the decision of the Portfolio Committee not to read her written apology, which was submitted on 6 February 2023.  An apology was also sent by Deputy Minister Fish Mahlalela.

Minister Sisulu wishes to re-emphasize yet again that she respects the Portfolio Committee in its role as an extension of Parliament to exercise oversight. She has always supported the mandate and work of the committee and will continue to do so.

The Minister following the meeting of the Joint Cabinet Committees joined the meeting of the Portfolio Committee.
