Minister Sisulu condemns reports of racist attacks on children at a Free State resort

Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has noted with utter disgust reports of a racist attack by a group of white men on black children. A video circulating on social media shows a group of white men attacking children at the Masselspoort Resort outside Bloemfontein in the Free State on Christmas Day.

Minister Sisulu supports all steps taken so far by the Free State Provincial Government, including the Office of the Premier, which has instructed DESTEA MEC Makalo Mohale to deal with the matter with the urgency it deserves and to engage law enforcement agencies.

Minister Sisulu said reports of racism at tourist facilities negatively impact the tourism sector, which is recovering well after being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. "I call on law-enforcement agencies to deal with this matter decisively and ensure that perpetrators are brought to book to send an eloquent message that incidents of racism have no place in our democracy," said Minister Sisulu.
