Tourism launches UNWTO Women in Tourism pilot project in Mopani district

​LIMPOPO PROVINCE – The Director-General of the Department of Tourism, Victor Tharage, together with the Limpopo Department of Economic Development Environment and Tourism (LEDET), will launch the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Women in Tourism (WiT) Pilot programme in Mopani District on 17 March 2022.


The Department of Tourism has initiated the WiT programme to drive the gender equality and inclusion of women entrepreneurs in the sector. To ensure that communities benefit as participants in the tourism economy, a pilot project focussing on women in tourism within Limpopo was identified to participate in the UNWTO Women in Tourism Pilot programme. 


Seven projects within the Ribola Art Route in the Mopani and Vhembe districts were identified for the pilot programme namely, Twananani Textiles, Nahakwe Lodge, Baleni Salt Harvestors, Mashishimale Village Homestays, Hi Hlurile Pot of Beads and Mukondeni Pottery Village.
