Minister of Tourism, Mr Derek Hanekom, will officially launch and handover facilities built by the Department at the Komjekeke heritage site. The Minister will also engage with the community on to tourism development, and progress with regards to the National Development Plan (NDP).
The Department promotes the growth of tourism products through infrastructure developments under its Social Responsibility Implementation (SRI) projects that are funded under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).
The multi-purpose hall and amphitheatre were constructed with the view of driving tourism to the area. The construction process also included new ablution blocks; three new traditional dwellings; 20 picnic sites; renovation of existing buildings including the VIP lapa; existing staff houses; and the painting of buildings.
It is envisaged that the facility will create employment opportunities, develop a vibrant, equitable and sustainable local economy that will assist the community to share in the benefits of tourism.
