More than one hundred and fifty (150) youth participating in the under 12 Danone Nations Cup will get first-hand experience of being a tourist when they visit various Gauteng attractions this weekend as part of the Department’s Social Tourism programme.
The Danone Nations Cup finalists will explore OR Tambo International airport, take a ride in the Gautrain, and go on a tour of Soweto - visiting Hector Peterson Square and Vilakazi Street. The tour will also include a trip to the FNB stadium and conclude with dinner at Gold Reef City.
Social Tourism seeks to encourage a culture of travel among all South Africans, in particular the youth.
The Department partnered with the South African Schools Football Association (SASFA) to kick-start the youth element of the Social Tourism programme. The Gauteng Tour is the first of a number of countrywide initiatives that will be rolled-out in partnership with the association in 2017.
