Biggest tourism career expo opens up to thousands of learners at Sun City, North West Province
Today more than 2000 from across the country assembled in what is dubbed as the biggest learner excursion in South Africa at the opening Ceremony of the 10th Edition of the National Tourism Career Expo.

This edition of the National Tourism Career Expo (NTCE), is convening at the world acclaimed Sun City Holiday Resort outside the town of Mogwase, in the North West province

The NTCE is a collaborative initiative of three partners: Department of Tourism (DT), the Culture Arts, Tourism, Hospitality & Sport Education Training Authority (CATHSSETA) and the North West Department of Tourism as a host province. It provides an opportunity for tourism curricula experts and industry skills specialists to share information with tourism educators and learners, on variety of careers choices and opportunities the sector offers.

“Having celebrated the World Tourism Day in Mthatha yesterday, it is befitting for us to close tourismmonth with NTCE.

As one of our department’s flagship programmes, which is designed to bridge the gap between industry, government.

Learners and young people. One of its key objectives is to promote tourism as a career of choice to learners and young People”, said the Deputy Minister Elizabeth Thabethe in her opening remarks.

“The NTCE has found a home and friends in our beautiful province. We have seen it from its humble beginnings, having been previously hosted by kwazulu Natal, the Eastern Cape, the Free State and now for in its tenth year, and now the cudgel is in the North West province”, said the MEC Desbo Mohono as she welcomed all the NTCE stakeholders which included the learners, educators, the NTCE partners and many others gathered at the holiday resort.

This year’s hosting of the NTCE coincides with the 2018 Nelson Mandela Centenary, an opportunity to recommit ourselves to his principles and building the nation envisioned at the advent of our democracy.

Key among the deliverables of the National Tourism Sector Strategy, the NTCE seeks to respond to the Broad Based Benefits pillar, that focuses on transformation, rural tourism development, enterprise development and investment – none of which is mutually exclusive.
