As part of oversight duties and to help speed up delivery of critical tourism infrastructure projects, on Monday 27 November 2023, Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille will visit the Manyane Lodge Project in the North West.
The project started several years ago but remains incomplete. The delay on this infrastructure project has a negative impact on the surrounding communities especially the tourism sector in the region.
Minister de Lille is working with stakeholders to unblock a number of delayed tourism infrastructure projects to get projects back on track and delivered across the country for the benefit of the tourism sector.
Quality and diverse tourism infrastructure projects are essential to the Department of Tourism’s objective to grow tourism numbers which will in turn grow the country’s economy and job creation.
The Manyane Lodge is located in the Mahikeng Local Municipality.
The multi million project started several years ago but has not been completed. The North West, through the North West Parks and Tourism Agency, made a request to the Department of Tourism to upgrade facilities at the Manyane Lodge including refurbishing and constructing new chalets, building a restaurant, parking and upgrading of bulk – water, sewer and electricity.
The Department has appointed the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) to complete the project and a new contractor was appointed at the end of October 2023.
The new contractor will be completing various works including completion of the restaurant building, construction of a 50-seater Conference Hall, refurbishment of chalets, refurbishment of the swimming pool and various other work to deliver a quality tourism infrastructure project for the region.
A key objective of the Tourism Sector Master Plan is to stimulate travel demand by investing in tourism infrastructure projects and growing our tourism offering for both domestic and international tourists.
Completing the Manyane Lodge is a key priority and Minister de Lille will visit the site to engage all stakeholders on the need to work together and speed up delivery and the importance of completing the project without any further delays.
