Deputy Minister Fish Mahlalela to attend the 44th King Silamba Commemoration and Cultural Festival

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr Fish Mahlalela, will attend the 44th King Silamba Commemoration and Cultural Festival that is hosted by the Ndebele Kingdom at the KoMjekejeke Heritage Site under the theme “Rebuild and Unite.”

The annual event honours King Silamba who liberated the Ndebele nation, and sustained its culture and heritage during colonial times. The commemoration will bring together  dignitaries from various royal houses, government and local leaders in celebration of the Ndebele culture through music, art and storytelling.

Our diverse culture and heritage offerings are among the drawcards that attract tourist to experience South Africa. The Department supports responsible and sustainable tourism growth through its Working for Tourism Infrastructure Development Programme to ensure economic empowerment, sector transformation, and the transfer of skills in tourism communities.

The Department is honoured to have contributed to the infrastructure enhancements at the KoMjekejeke Heritage site. This beautiful site is a cradle for the valuable historical and cultural artefacts of the Ndebele people, and a must-see destination for local and international visitors.
