On 01 October, Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille will host South Africa’s Tourism Infrastructure Investment Summit (SATIS) in Johannesburg, bringing together global leaders, policy makers, investors and industry stakeholders to drive tourism infrastructure investment and advance a sustainable project pipeline for South Africa’s tourism sector.
Tourism is South Africa’s most compelling growth sector, with a potential to drive GDP growth, create jobs and attract foreign direct investment. Sustained investment in tourism infrastructure will strengthen the country’s long-term economic resilience, enhance its global competitiveness and unlock inclusive opportunities across the tourism value chain.
“I am pleased to host the second edition of South Africa’s Tourism Investment Summit (SATIS) on 1 October 2026. Much was achieved at our inaugural event in 2025, and this summit has affirmed tourism as a critical player in economic policy,” Minister De Lille said.
In 2025, the inaugural SATIS positioned South Africa as a highly attractive destination for tourism infrastructure investment, presenting eight bankable projects with the potential to unlock nearly R1 billion in high-impact opportunities. Spanning eco-tourism, hospitality infrastructure, cultural heritage tourism and green innovation, the projects underscored the breadth, quality and long-term growth potential of South Africa’s tourism investment pipeline.
As an economic driver, tourism has the potential to expand empowerment, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.
“SATIS 2026 will be engaging and will unlock a pipeline of fifteen (15) tourism infrastructure investment opportunities with a potential value of R3,5 billion that will empower our people, grow local economies, and amass South Africa’s competitiveness in the global tourism market,” Minister De Lille added.
