Stakeholder Consultations on Tourism Transformation Strategy

​Introduction
 

Department of Tourism embarked on the process of developing the transformation strategy with a view to e and enhance the pace of transformation in the tourism sector. In 2017/18 financial year, the draft strategy was developed and approved for consultation with the tourism sector.

The draft strategy maps out a comprehensive set of targeted actions to transform the sector beyond compliance with the Amended Tourism B-BBEE Code d on 20 November 2015Consultative sessions will be conducted nationwide with all tourism stakeholders in the public and private sectors. The department will e and facilitate one consultative session per province  and Urban Economics will deliver the presentation of the draft strategy.

Objectives of the Consultations

The main objective of stakeholder consultations is to solicit inputs and comments from all interested, affected persons, organised and individual businesses and organisations in the tourism sector for finalisation of the draft Tourism Transformation strategy. The consultations are also aimed at providing a platform for the department to share the state of transformation in the tourism sector and collectively determine a way forward.

Nation-wide consultation dates

Nation-wide consultations will commence in September 2018 and conclude on 30 November 2018 after which the Urban Economics will start with the analysis of the inputs and development of the consultation report. The integration of inputs into the report will commence thereafter and the strategy will be finalised in March 2019.
