Purpose

To oversee the provision of tourism sector support services.

Functions
  • Tourism Sector Human Resource Development: To facilitate management and implementation of tourism sector  human resource development initiatives

  • Enterprise Development and Transformation: To manage  and facilitate inclusive participation and sustainability in the tourism sector

  • Tourism Visitor Services: To manage and coordinate information integrity and facilitate accurate information for travelling

  • Tourism Incentive Programme: To manage the establishment of capital and tourism incentives to promote and encourage tourism development and growth.
Strategic objectives of the Branch  
  • To facilitate the implementation of the tourism sector human resource development strategy.
  • To accelerate the transformation of the tourism sector.
  • To facilitate the development and growth of tourism enterprises to contribute to inclusive economic growth and job creation
  • To diversify and enhance tourism offerings.

Ms Nompumelelo Mqwebu is a locally and internationally acclaimed chef who advocates for the elevation of authentic African Cuisine. Her cookbook, “Through the Eyes of an African Chef” which contains recipes that reflect her love for tasty African food. She won the 2018 International Gourmand World Cookbook Award. 

Nompumelelo has participated at various gourmet and business events locally and internationally and was also a judge in selecting “The World’s best 50 Restaurants” between 2013 and 2014. She is the winner of the 2018 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards: Best in The World Self Published (Global) and Best in The world - First Book - (Regional). Gourmet awards are the major food culture event in the world. 

She has trained and mentored junior chefs, trained small producers and farmers and catered and coordinated food events through her business Africa Meets Europe Cuisine. All her produce is sourced from local farmers and menus are seasonal depending on availability of products.
