Tourism Month is an annual celebration held in September to focus on the importance of tourism to the economy of South Africa.

The theme for the 2012 Tourism Month highlights the need to bring the tourism sector and energy stakeholders closer together to spur tourisms contribution to sustainability.

Tourism Month is aimed at encouraging more people to embark on leisure activities and, in so doing, to increase the number of domestic holiday trips and tourism spend in all nine provinces, while contributing to a critical sector of the country’s economy.
The Department of Tourism leads the celebrations with a number of events.
