Tourism Month 2017

Tourism Month is celebrated annually in September with the aim of encouraging South Africans to explore their own country. It also provides the tourism industry with an opportunity for a sustained, heightened month-long focus on the importance of domestic tourism to the economy. 

The Department of Tourism leads the celebrations with a number of events.

South African Tourism, in partnership with the National Department of Tourism, Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency commits itself to promoting Sustainable Tourism for Development through the #We do tourism Sustainably Campaign.

Tourism Month Objectives

To grow domestic tourism through editorial coverage of South Africa’s commitment to sustainable economical, social and environmental activities.

Rally the nation behind tourism and get everyone to contribute to tourism in a sustainable manner.

Inspire domestic travel by showcasing how taking a trip can be easily accessible, affordable and exciting.

Show everyone how they can contribute to tourism through assisting with the preservation of the local wild-life and environment.

Activities

During the month of September there will be a series of activations that will profile achievements by the Department of Tourism and industry in growing the sector, the country’s flagship attractions, celebrating excellence in the sector via various media activations, events, public lectures on related tourism and hospitality topics, industry dialogues and formal dialogues and business breakfasts.
