 National Tourism Careers Expo (NTCE) 2016

Introduction

The National Tourism Careers Expo (NTCE) is fast becoming an electrifying trademark event in the tourism industry. Presented by three partners which include the Department of Tourism , Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DESTEA - Free State), and the Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA). 

Background

The National Tourism Careers Expo (NTCE), in its seventh year, which will be hosted for the 2nd consecutive year in the Free State, is becoming one of the most exciting trademarks of the tourism industry. NTCE is a collaboration of the three partners: the Department of Tourism (NDT), the Culture Arts, Tourism, Hospitality & Sport Education Training Authority (CATHSSETA) and the Free State Department of Economic Small Business Development, Tourism and Environment Affairs (DESTEA) as a host province.

The event provides an opportunity for tourism curricula experts to share information with tourism educators, and for stakeholders within the sector to share information on diversity of available careers in the sector. It is designed to bridge the information gap between the industry, government, learners and educators. Under the theme: “Tourism alive with opportunities”, the expo aims to drive South Africa`s National Tourism Strategy’s goal of creating 225 000 tourism jobs opportunities by 2020. 

This platform is meant to facilitate interaction between the above groups of people such that information and knowledge can be shared on available education and training opportunities as well as to show case available tourism professional opportunities and their worth in the South African and global economy.

The 2016 event will be held on the 29 to 03 October 2016 at the PACOFS, Sand Du Plessis, Bloemfontein, under the theme “Tourism Alive with Possibilities”. 

During the expo popular highlights will include:
  • d areas within the expo that will cater to each of the sectors of tourism and hospitality
  • Speakers Corner, where tourism entrepreneurs and industry experts will share their success stories and allow learners and students to interact directly with the speakers.
  • A job placement and recruitment service will also be made available to the learners
  • Private sector companies will exhibit at the expo where they will provide interactive, edutainment experiences for the learners and further show their commitment to skills development by offering a number of bursaries, learnerships and internships to learners attending the expo.
Why the expo is important?

“We want people in tourism to be proud of being in the sector, and events like the NTCE are a wonderful showcase of the wide possibilities available to learners. As the partners of the expo, we are merely here to provide a platform of interaction and knowledge. We are thrilled to have been part of this extremely successful event and hope that each and every learners, unemployed youth and educator who attended has seized the opportunity to make it happen,” says the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Tokozile Xasa.
