Stony Point Eco Centre launch
Stony Point Eco Centre Project launch

Minister Derek Hanekom, will officially launch and handover facilities constructed at the Stony Point Eco Centre by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Western Cape Oversrand Municipality.  The Stony Point Eco Centre is an initiative solely owned by the members of the Mooiuitsig community, and poised to attract more domestic and international visitors once it has been launched.

The Department promotes the growth of tourism products through infrastructure developments under its Social Responsibility Implementation (SRI) projects that are funded under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

Through the EPWP funding, the department has facilitated the construction of a themed Visitor Information Centre, a Tearoom and a Heritage Site of Whaling History at the Stony Point Eco Centre. It is envisaged that the project will create employment opportunities, develop a vibrant, equitable and sustainable tourism economy that will assist the local community to share in the benefits of tourism.
