The Wine Service or Sommelier Training is a three-year training programme. Its objective is to upskill unemployed youth and to ensure employability within the hospitality and wine industry. Learners are trained in various wine-related courses and placed in registered wine industries and hospitality establishments for practical training. The project has been rolled out in the Western Cape, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
The training duration is for a period of 12 months to three years during which learners are being trained in theory (30%) and practical (70%). Learners will receive the following training:
