As part of our commitment to transformation in the Tourism sector, the Tourism B-BBEE Charter Council (the Council) has developed the Tourism Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) website. The website is a matchmaking platform whereby large enterprises can identify, reach, compare, shortlist and finally procure goods and services from 100% Black owned suppliers. The main aim of the website is to assist large enterprises to meet the Enterprise and Supplier Development element targets of the Amended Tourism B-BBEE Sector Code, by ensuring that the following information is accessible:
- Reliable information on Black owned suppliers with the required profile and expertise for the purpose of Preferential procurement, Enterprise and Supplier development. This will reduce an inordinate amount of time and extra administration required by large enterprise to identify and verify Black owned suppliers for procurement purpose;
- Latest B-BBEE practice notes published either by the Department of Trade and Industry or the Tourism B-BBEE Charter Council, and
- Updated list of Tourism B-BBEE Verification Professionals.
The website is also a reporting tool as provided in Section 10 (4) of the B-BBEE Amendment Act No. 46 of 2013, that enterprises operating in a sector in respect of which the Minister has issued a Sector Code in terms of Section 9 (1), must report annually on their compliance with Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment to the Sector Council which may have been established for that sector. Accordingly, measured entities in the Tourism sector are required to upload their B-BBEE information under Tourism Enterprises directory of the website.
