On behalf of the Department of Tourism, I wish to extend heartfelt congratulations to several South African hotels and lodges for winning awards in the recent Travel + Leisure Readers’ Awards. 

Readers voted for the best hotels and lodges based on their travel experiences around the world and were asked to share their opinions on hotels, resorts and lodges. 

The Travel + Leisure readers’ top picks for hotels in Africa in the “World’s Best Awards” survey of 2024 results were as follows: 

Ellerman House: Cape Town, South Africa scooped the Africa City Hotels Winner award. One visitor said it was one of the best hotels they have stayed at in the world. 

Other winners in this category included the Mount Nelson and Cape Grace hotels in Cape Town and the Saxon Hotel, Villas & Spa in Johannesburg. 

In the Resorts Category, Babylonstoren in the Cape Winelands was voted number 2 in this category. 

“These are amazing achievements for our establishments who often feature as top attractions in global travel and tourism lists and awards. I want to congratulate these establishments for this achievement and thank all the staff members for their hard work in keeping South African establishments to the highest standards and on global awards lists. Our people are our most valuable asset and they are the driving force behind what makes South Africa a top travel destination,” Minister de Lille said.
