South Africa’s Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) partnered with the Tourism Hospitality Education and Training Authority (Theta) and the province of KwaZulu Natal, Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism, staged South Africa's National Tourism Career Expo event on 30 Sept, 01& 02 Oct 2010
at the Durban Exhibition Centre in KwaZulu Natal.

The responsibility of Tourism Business Development is to undertake tourism development planning, investment promotion and small business support and development. This work is guided by the objective of transforming the tourism industry for the benefit of all South Africans.
SA Welcome Campaign
The SA Welcome Campaign was launched to spearhead the building of a tourism nation. It aims to increase South African awareness of the importance of tourism to the growth of our economy.
Tourism cruise liner project
Introduction
In January 27, 2009 the Deputy Director General of tourism Ms Sindiswa Nhlumayo hosted a Local Government Indaba on Tourism with leaders critical to growth and development of the nation's Travel and Tourism sector.
Immediately following the Indaba, DEAT leveraged the opportunity of having a rich number and diversity of government and private sector representatives from South Africa's coastal provinces to host a mini workshop with all coastal provinces where a discussion on intergrated approach to both Cruise Tourism as well as Blue Flag status for South Africa took place.
