Opening the doors for young women in tourism
Deputy Minister Tokozile Xasa

The Department of Tourism in collaborations with the City of Tshwane, will host the “Women in Tourism” Breakfast event under the theme “Opening the Doors for Young Women in Tourism.”

According the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) 2010 ‘Global report on Women in Tourism,’ women make up a large proportion of the formal tourism workforce, and are well represented in service and clerical level – but earn 10% to 15% less than their male counterparts.

The “Women in Tourism” breakfast event will highlight the status of women in tourism within Tshwane, whilst building a legacy within the sector, by supporting on-going internships and exchange programmes for women studying tourism, and by supporting youth entrepreneurial development initiatives for women in the sector.

Deputy Minister of tourism, Ms Tokozile Xasa, will present the keynote address on “Tourism – impacting the lives of women; the role of women in the industry now, and in the future.”
