Tourism Deputy Minister Elizabeth Thabethe will officiate the Hospitality Youth Training Programme graduation ceremony in Kimberley on 26 March 2018. The programme is part of the Department of Tourism’s Human Resources Skills Development initiative which is aligned to the Broad Based Benefits pillar of the National Tourism Sector Strategy 2016 -2026.
In the 2016/2017 financial year, the Department approved a budget of R5m for the training of 115 learners from the Northern Cape in a 12 months Hospitality Youth Learnership Programme. The learnership programme comprised of 30% theory and 70% practical training. Learners were placed at various hospitality establishments within the province for workplace experience.
Learners will receive CATHSSETA accredited certificates in one of the following two qualifications:
- National Certificate Food and Beverages NQF level 4
- National Certificate Accommodation Services NQF Level 2
The graduation ceremony will be followed by an imbizo, where Deputy Minister Thabethe will engage with the community at the Galeshewe Recreation Centre.
